This function will save your preferences; once you have an account it is possible to select both your home airport and your budget. Once you have selected your closest airport, you’ll also start to receive emails about flight deals near you!
2. Use the ‘add nearby airports’ button
While it might be preferable to depart from the nearest airport, it’s worthwhile considering other departure points that might not be as far away as you think. We have the tool just for that! Widen your search for the best flight deals: select the ‘add nearby airports’ button for flight costs from all airports nearby. You can also select nearby airports at your destination.
Once you’ve activated the airport locator function, browse all of your choices before selecting the best option. Searching for nearby airports will give you the most options for finding flights that fit your budget. Sometimes the closest airport with the best price might be across the border. 3. Find the closest airport wherever you are in the world
If you’re travelling, you may not always be departing from your nearest airport or your most common departure city. Skyscanner makes it easy to figure out the closest airport where you will be. Start by entering your departure city or town closest to you, using the airport locator. Skyscanner will automatically suggest airports in that area. The distance from nearby airports to the location that you entered will display, too. Easy peasy!
Major Airports Across Canada
Let’s have a look at some popular Canadian departure and destination cities and explore flight deals from airports in cities across Canada.
Flying from Toronto
If you plan to begin your travels in Toronto, then the ‘Airports Near Me’ search would include Toronto Pearson International (YYZ), Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) and Hamilton International Airport (YHM).
Toronto’s Pearson Airport is also the busiest airport in Canada and has some of the best international flight prices in the country. Pearson is located about 30 minutes from downtown with several transit options available, including a high speed, dedicated airport-to-city rail link called UP Express. Fares vary depending on your destination. Toronto public transit (TTC) costs $3.
Billy Bishop Airport is located on the Toronto Islands and is a small, regional airport just minutes from downtown. It’s the main hub in Canada for Porter flights. Billy Bishop is accessible by a pedestrian tunnel (which takes about 6 minutes to walk through), or by ferry. The ferry departs every 15 minutes and is free for pedestrians, but costs $11 for vehicles.
Hamilton International Airport is also known as John C. Munro International Airport and is located roughly 11 km south of Hamilton, around an hour from downtown Toronto. You can get from Hamilton Airport to Hamilton by taking the A-line of Hamilton, with service from the airport to downtown. The journey takes around 30 minutes. Airlines with service to Hamilton Airport include Air Canada, Flair Airlines, and WestJet.
Flying from Vancouver
If you are setting off from Vancouver, airports nearby would be a choice of Vancouver International (YVR) or Vancouver Coal Harbour (CXH).
Vancouver International is about 12 km from downtown and is located on Sea Island in Richmond. It is the second busiest airport in the country. YVR can be accessed by the city’s transit rail on the Canada Line, for a cost of $5 plus an additional zone fare. It takes about 30 minutes to get from the airport to downtown.
Vancouver Coal Harbour is the city’s seaplane terminal, located in the heart of Vancouver. This small terminal gives business and float plane travellers direct access to the city centre and business area.
Another airport in Vancouver called Vancouver Boundary Bay; located in Delta, BC (part of Metro Vancouver) offers regular passenger flights to and from Vancouver Island. The airport also serves aviation services like aircraft maintenance and air traffic control training.
Flying from Edmonton
If you plan to fly from Edmonton, you’ll be using the Edmonton International (YEG). Edmonton International has the best variety of flights and prices and is located 26 km southwest of downtown Edmonton. There are several transportation options from the airport to the city centre: these include the Edmonton Skyshuttle, a direct shuttle service which costs $18 one-way and $30 round-trip. This must be pre-booked if you’re going from the city to the airport, and the opposite direction is first come, first served. Another option is Edmonton Transit System’s Route 747 bus service, which connects passengers to the bus and railways networks. The fare for this is $5.
Flying from Montreal
In the city of Montreal, the main airport serving domestic and international travellers for a while now has been Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport (YUL), which used to be known as Dorval Airport (as it’s located in the Montreal suburb of Dorval). Montréal-Trudeau is Montreal’s international airport, the 3rd busiest in Canada, and has the best flight deals in the city. Located 20 km from downtown, Montreal’s bus system, also known as the STM, offers 24-hour buses between the airport and downtown. The cost is $10, but the fare is valid for 24 consecutive hours to travel throughout the bus and metro network.
Travel tip: A popular alternative for airports near Montreal is to cross the border to New York State and fly out of Plattsburgh International Airport. The signs in the airport are all bilingual (English and French) and this airport is known as “Montreal’s U.S. airport.” It only takes about an hour and a half to get there from Montreal and is a good option to check out when comparing flight prices. Plattsburgh Airport will appear as an option when searching for ‘international airports near me’ in Montreal. Take advantage and you might end up saving a few hundred dollars on your next flight!
Flying from Calgary
There’s one option for travellers flying from Calgary: Calgary International Airport (YYC). Calgary International is the busiest airport in Alberta and the 4th busiest in Canada. It is also the main airport hub for WestJet. Public transit from downtown Calgary to the airport departs every 30 minutes (from 5 a.m. until midnight), with a choice of public transit ($8 for either a bus or train route) or direct shuttle ($15).
Flying from Halifax
Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ) is the only airport serving Halifax, and is often the cheapest airport to fly out in the Maritime region. A public bus is available every hour from the Halifax city centre to the airport (34km). The route takes about 40 minutes and costs $3.50 for adults, and $2.75 for children/seniors. In addition, a seasonal direct shuttle service is offered between May 1 and October 31 and costs $22 (or $40 round trip).

Flying from Ottawa
The only airport in Canada’s capital city is the Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport. Appropriate for the political atmosphere of the city, the airport was named after two of the country’s founding fathers: Sir John A. Macdonald and Sir George-Étienne Cartier. Public transit is available via the OC Transpo bus system for $3.50.
Other nearest airports to Ottawa are Ogdensburg Airport (OGS), Massena International Airport (MSS) and Watertown International Airport (ART). These airports are less than 100 km away but are in New York State. If you plan to travel from any of these airports, make sure you have the necessary identification to cross the border and clear customs. Search for international airports near me to take advantage of flight deals.
