Flying from Kuala Lumpur to Vancouver
Traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Vancouver, you need to plan for connecting flights. There are no nonstop services at this time. Here’s travel information that it can help to keep in mind.
Flying out of Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur International Airport, or KLIA, is a vast, multi-terminal complex about 45 km to the south of the city of Kuala Lumpur. It’s one of the largest airports in the world, with lots of facilities; you need to know where you’re going and what you’re doing, however.
KLIA consists of three terminals: the main terminal, a Satellite Terminal A and KLIA 2, a terminal dedicated to low-cost airlines from around the Asia-Pacific region. To fly to Vancouver, you’ll need to head for either the main terminal or the satellite terminal, depending on your airline and flight.
There are all kinds of ways to get to the airport. Apart from taking a taxi, you can use one of many bus services – the express coach, airport liner, city liner, the Sepang Omnibus, the Star Hotel Shuttle and many others.
The KLIA Ekspres train is another possibility. This disabled-friendly train runs between KL Central railway station and the airport in under 20 minutes Pro tip: use the KLIA express app to buy tickets for a 10% discount, and pay by MasterCard for another 10% off.
If you need to transfer from one terminal to another, you need to look for the City Liner.
The airport itself is designed with plenty of facilities -- from Rest’n’Go zones with massage chairs and a free movie lounge, to a gym, special areas for babies and children, luggage storage and lockers and telecommunications, there’s something for every need.
Perhaps their sleep facilities are the most impressive. There’s a Capsule by Container hotel a 10-minute walk away from the airport, and a facility called Snooze KL for some quick rest. You can also simply sleep in one of the many quiet, carpeted areas.
If you are planning on visiting a duty-free shop, the prices are generally considered very competitive. If you’ve done some shopping in the city, however, you should remember to get your tax refunded at the airport.
Since this is a very busy airport, you will typically need to come in well in time. Whether it’s passport control or security, hour-long waits are standard.
Arriving in Vancouver
A spacious, modern, brightly-lit, single-terminal airport, Vancouver International checks all the boxes -- warm, attractively designed interiors, plenty of artistic displays, free Wi-Fi, quiet, carpeted corners where you can get a little shut-eye (look for Quiet Zones and Rest Zones), and many helpful Airport Ambassadors who can point you in the right direction (they wear green vests). There are even dry cleaners, dentists and shoe repair outlets.
When you arrive at Vancouver, you need to be ready to take it slow. The airport is overcrowded, and every line can take far too long. Once you leave the airport terminal, the easiest way to get to your hotel is to wait for an airport pickup by your hotel (use Skyscanner’s tool for great hotel deals). You only need to call one of the courtesy phones available at Arrivals.
While you can rent a car or get a metered taxi to get to the city, the Canada Line rapid transit train to the Central Vancouver 25 minutes away is the fastest way to get there.
The city’s all yours to explore
Vancouver is truly an international city, and you’ll never be short of ways to come by a great time. While you can always take a guided city tour, it’s usually much more fun when you explore the city on your own. Take a day to go whale watching, or a look inside the Britannia Mine. A city hop-on, hop-off tram or bus tour, a bike tour, or, if you have lots of time, a trip up north to look at the Northern lights, are all part of the joy of this city. Vancouver is captivating, and you won’t want to waste a minute.
