Characterless Hotel in Relatively Safe Area of Calgary Downtown
The location is also close to China Town which is also good and convenient. No restaurants nearby but there's a grocery "Dollarama" nearby where one may buy some food and drinks, otherwise there're restaurants in the hotel. Attractions (not much frankly in Calgary) are within walkwable distance.
I took a public bus from the airport and it dropped me about 3 blocks away.
All the above are the good sides. The bad sides I don't like include:
- no kettle in the room (provided upon request though)
- the floor-to-ceiling windows are in 2 pieces with a solid wall in between. It blocks my views and sunlight. Such design is so silly and old fashioned
- it's Marriot's brand and I am disappointed. Design and service are characterless.

EXCELLENT SERVICE 5/5 AND BEAUTIFUL HOTEL
I thought I had stepped into some weird vortex, it was so clean and safe walking to my hotel after getting dropped off.
Anyways, this review isn't about my room or stay YET as my credit card decided to block my payments tonight (ridiculous credit card that suddenly resolved itself once I was back at my previous Marriott Fairfield in Airdrie 30mins later LOL )
Anyways, I'm writing this quickly because I've honestly had a few terrible experiences with hotels especially back home where I'm from in BC downtown that would immediately turn their nose up, act all high and mighty (maybe it's a BC and Nevada only thing haha) but NOPE, Courtyard Calgary Downtown hotel staff and management did not become cold, unfriendly, did not brush me off, did not make assumptions or lay judgements and most importantly everyone working on Dec 25 between 10:30pm to 11:30pm did not make me feel like a huge nuisance with my only credit card that I had on me that continuously showed declined despite me calling in twice and customer service told me to swipe and sign and it still didn't work (and of course the bank phone line CLOSED their customer service lines right after calling back AGAIN LOL).... yet Duha and her team and management working on DECEMBER 25TH between 10:30pm to 11:30pm were so genuinely understanding, patient, kind and seriously went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and not a burden. ❤️
Duha escalated to her management team and got her manager (so sorry I didn't catch her name or her other colleagues) was ALSO JUST AS genuine, helpful, incredibly understanding, and kind despite being busy. There was an ATM on the second floor but NOPE my credit card was just being a headache.
Anyways I just want to leave this first impression 5 Star Review first because holy damn, what a beautiful and heartwarming night where usually this would have led to stress or potential awkwardness (lol everyone knows that feeling I bet haha )
I will edit this review once again when I've stayed at Courtyard officially - hopefully this WEEKEND if my stupid credit card fixes whatever issue it had with this transaction.
Anyways, will be back 200% when I come back from Airdrie Fairfield Inn (also an awesome hotel).
Still ridiculous that the credit card is working now and I'm back checked in literally writing this review at 12:30am on December 26 now. Anyways, NOTE TO SELF - ALWAYS CARRY AN EXTRA CARD LOL
