British Airways’ Executive Club loyalty program is a tiered program where passengers can collect rewards points—called Avios—and redeem them on flights, hotels, car rentals and other travel rewards. In order to make collecting Avios even easier, families and friends can share British Airways’ Executive Club accounts and earn rewards faster. Depending on your usage, you will be accorded an Executive Club tier, either Blue, Bronze, Silver, or Gold. While all the tiers offer exclusive benefits for members, Bronze and above offer priority check-in, free seat selection, priority boarding, and bonus Avios points when flying with airline partners (Iberia, American Airlines, Japan Airlines).

The higher your British Airways’ Executive Club tier, the more you benefit, including exclusive lounge access for Silver and Gold members who are flying on British Airways flights and other bonuses such as reservation assurance and, for Gold Members, upgrade vouchers and no booking or services fees for Priority Reward bookings.

If you find yourself looking for other ways to bump up for Avios, you can apply for British Airway’s exclusive Visa card and earn up to 75 000 Avios in your first year. If you spend $3000 dollars in your first three months on your British Airways Visa Signature card, you can earn 50 000 bonus Avios and, if you spend $10 000 on your British Airways Visa Signature card within your first year, you will earn an additional 25 000 Avios. Certain fees and terms apply, so take a look and see if the British Airways Visa Signature is right for you.

British Airways check-in is made simple as they offer a variety of easy-to-use options for their passengers to pick from. Prior to departure (up to 24 hours before), passengers are able to check-in for their flights online or through British Airways’ mobile app, you can also check your British Airways flight status, and manage your British Airways online booking all together with the app. From either location, passengers can choose seats or download or print their boarding passes. Passengers are also able to check-in at the airport, but be aware that if you are checking in at London Heathrow, you need to be at the airport at least 60 minutes before departure for long-haul flights, and 45 minutes before short-haul. Check-in times will vary depending on the airport, but be sure to give yourself enough time so that you don’t miss your flight.

British Airways has a variety of seating options for passengers, with seats ranging from Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First. Depending on the length of your flight, the type of plane will change and so will the selection of seats. With longer international flights, passengers are able to take advantage of the Economy World Traveler section for additional savings. If you find that you need more leg room, it’s recommended that you purchase a seat in Premium Economy or above as Economy World Traveler can be a tight fit. Check British Airway’s seating map prior to your flight to ensure you select the seat you need.

Most seat selections are included free with your British Airways ticket price, but if you have elected to purchase a Basic ticket, then there will be a fee to select a specific seat. Otherwise, you can let British Airways select a seat for you for free. If you wish to have more leg room, prices start at $75 USD for exit row seats or, if you need more room, twin seats are available on some longer international flights in World Traveler for an additional $45 USD per seat. British Airways tries to be very accommodating for its passengers and if you feel you will need special accommodation, do not hesitate to call the airline and let them know your specific requests.

British Airways baggage allowance gives each passenger 1 piece of hand baggage and either a laptop bag or handbag. The hand baggage must not exceed the dimensions of 56 x 45 x 25cm for a max of 23kg and must be able to fit into the overhead bin. Your personal item must be able to be stowed below the seat in front of you during takeoff and landing.

For checked baggage allowance, Economy World travelers are allowed 1 bag weighing no more than 23kg. World Traveler Plus are allowed 2 bags weighing no more than 23kg each. Business class travelers are allowed 2 bags weighing no more than 32kg each and, finally, First Class travelers are allowed 3 bags weighing no more than 32 kg each. Overweight bags are charged a fee depending on the departure location and intended destination, but the price for overweight bags ranges from $85 USD to $120 USD, so be aware of how heavy your bags are before you head to the airport.

Passengers can pay for extra luggage either at the airport or online, with prices at the airport being higher than if the passenger books online. Prices for extra baggage depend on the departing location and destination of your flight but range from $50 USD to $160 USD when baggage is booked online, and $55 USD to $185 USD when luggage is paid for at the airport check-in.

British Airways has a variety of in-flight entertainment options depending on the plane and length of your journey. From new Hollywood releases to choice selections from popular British television programs, British Airways will have you and your family covered. If movies and television aren’t to your preference, then British Airways also offers a variety of musical offerings, with guest musicians who craft special playlists, just for British Airways. British Airways also offers a great selection of in-seat games for you and your family to enjoy during your flight.

You are also able to use your personal devices on the flight, such smartphones, tablets, or laptops, provided that they are in airplane mode. In-flight WiFi is not currently available on British Airways flights, but the company has committed to rolling out the technology very soon.

British Airways flights have complementary on-board dining for long-haul flights and meal options for purchase on short-haul flights for. If you are a part of British Airways’ Executive Club, you can update your dining preferences on your account online. If you aren’t interested in the complimentary food options, you are able to order meals ahead of time. Prices for pre-purchased meals range from $20 USD to $25 USD for Economy flights and should suit a variety of tastes and dietary needs.

If you are traveling in World Traveler Plus, you can choose your meal from the on-board menu from 30 days before, up to 24 hours before your flight. Your meal is included in the price of your World Traveler Plus ticket.

If you require either Kosher or Muslim meals, please notify British Airways at least 48 hours before your departure. If you need other special meal requests, please notify British Airways at least 24 hours before your departure as they have a wide variety of vegetarian options, diabetic, gluten intolerant, low calorie, low fat, and many more options for passenger needs.

p>When flying with British Airways, children up to 2 years of age are not required to have their own seat as they are allowed to sit in the lap of their parent or guardian. However, the guardian who is holding the child must be at least 15 years old and British Airways must be informed that the infant will be held on the guardian’s lap prior to departure. Any child that is 2 years or older must have their own seat on the aircraft.

British Airways has three age categories:

Infants: 0-23 months

Children: 2-11 years

Young Adults: 12-15 years

Adults: over 16 years.

There are some discounts offered for infants and children, however, all children under 12 years of age must fly with a guardian who is at least 16 years old and cannot fly alone. If a young adult is traveling on their own, you must book the ticket directly from your local British Airways office as you cannot book the ticket online or through the app. British Airways cannot assume guardianship over your traveling child, so please be sure to wait until the aircraft has cleared the terminal before leaving the airport. If your child is not comfortable traveling alone, then be sure to make arrangements for a guardian or a friend to travel with your child.

Depending on where your child is traveling from or to, there are different regulations by country, especially when traveling from the UK to the EU or the Americas. Be sure that your child has all the necessary documentation/guardianship that they need for the country they are traveling to prior to arrival at the airport.

For passengers with recognized Assistance Dogs, the dogs are allowed to fly free of charge on British Airways. Any other pets or emotional support animals are required to travel in the hold of the aircraft. Pets traveling with British Airways are handled by British Airway’s sister company, IAG World Cargo. IGA World Cargo has specific instructions outlined on their website for carrier dimensions, and can also be contacted prior to your flight to ensure a successful and stress-free flight with British Airways.

If you are traveling from outside of the UK to a UK destination, your pet must meet the requirements of the Pet Travel Scheme that is offered by the UK Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs. Often, pets traveling from outside of the UK to a destination in the UK are required to undergo a quarantine period, but the Pet Travel Scheme allows some animals to travel between certain countries to airports in the UK without having to undergo this quarantine period. Flying with a pet to the UK can be a complicated process and one that takes research beyond what British Airways as an airline provider will provide. Contact the local government for where you are visiting and determine whether it’s best that you travel with your pet, or keep it at home while traveling to the UK.
